Why do police officers ask 'what do you do' (for a living) ?

So my neighbor goes around making trouble and she lied to the police and said our family was beating her up, (FALSE REPORT) they came and she actually made a false police report but the police badgered us with questions ' what do you do for a living' ? Why does this matter when the neighbor made a false police report and LIED to get the police to come out, when we confronted her she said, ' yeah i know I just like to see the police make you respect me like you should'
