I'm sometimes getting a white light flashing across my laptop's LCD screen. What could be the problem?

It usually happens for a split second. But sometimes a white image (not entirely covering the whole screen) appears for a second. I noticed it happens when watching a video and mouse untouched for a minute. Does it have to do with the screensaver or not using a cool pad? I need a comprehensive answer that is directly related to the problem. Thanks!
