Are Filipinos Asian? Read description please?

I'm Filipino and I consider myself and my family Asian, not Pacific Islanders, but I consider myself Southeast Asian not East Asian. I'm getting kind of tired of people always saying that Filipinos aren't Asian, saying we're Pacific Islanders or something, and (this one I don't even get) Indian or Native American. Everyone I know, except for my friends who actually know this isn't true, think that to be Asian, you have to have 'slanted' eyes, single eyelids, or just have to look Korean, Japanese, or Chinese. And also that to be Asian, the country you're from has to have characters like Kanji from Japan, Hangeul from Korea, or Chinese writing, and have a language similar to them and traditions similar to theirs!
